Learn the language in a unique Spanish immersion program combined with a cultural experience at The Center of Languages in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.
The Center of Languages functions at a higher academic level than most other schools. Because of its connections with universities and community colleges, it is a good choice for all students and professionals who need to earn college credits or continuing education units for their salaries or credential renewal.
Intensive Spanish Program :
This is a program for anyone who wants to learn Spanish; the minimum age to participate in this program is thirteen years. Classes are small with no more than six students per class. Specials Courses for Professionals
The center of Languages has designed special Spanish courses for a number of professions that have particular needs to speak Spanish as well as understand the cultures of Mexico and of Latin America. These special courses include those listed below.
Health Professionals:
This innovative program places special emphasis on the vocabulary that interns, medical students and nurses might use in daily or emergency situations at medical facilities. Nurses are invited to inquire about how they can earn California State credits for contact hour studies. More info.>>>
Law Enforcement:
City police and county sheriff departments regularly send personnel to the Center to learn or improve their Spanish. This course emphasizes language tools necessary to meet emergency situations. More info.>>>
Teachers:
The program is designed for teachers who have Latino students in their classes and the need to learn or improve their Spanish in order to improve communication with their students and the families of their students. More info.>>>
Attorneys:
In recent years, the Latino community has grown considerably and so has the community’s need for legal services. For this reason, we’ve designed a program which focuses on legal vocabulary. We understand the importance of being able to communicate rights and obligations with clients in a clear and simple manner.

Families:
Each summer the school opens for a special, week-long program with families that attend the school to study and enjoy a week together. The family week Spanish program is divided into the general program and the program for children and teens. This program is for students between the ages of 6 and 13. More info.>>>
Middle and High School students:
The program is four hours long, with two hours of grammar and two hours of conversation. The program begins with a placement test, similar to the regular program. The student is placed in the appropriate level based on the results of the placement test. More info.>>>
Social Workers:
We know that the primary mission of the social worker is to improve a person’s well-being and help him/her obtain basic necessities, with particular attention to those who are vulnerable, oppressed, or living in poverty. One of the groups of people in need of these types of services is the Latino community, and it’s becoming more and more important to learn Spanish to serve this population. More info.>>>
Firefighters and Paramedics:
When we are in an emergency situation in which our health or lives are at risk, indisputably we need the services of firefighters and paramedics. In the United States, the Latino community has grown considerably. Being able to speak Spanish is becoming more and more important, especially when it comes to saving lives.

BCLAD:
Teachers who are or want to be bilingual need to prepare themselves to obtain an advanced level of grammar, spelling, and fluency in Spanish. We have prepared a program for these teachers which will help them with the skills they need in order to receive BCLAD certification.
